Book makers in the Printroom

The fourth of our monthly ABCD (Artists Book Club Dove) happened yesterday. The theme was a container FOR the container we made last time.
Why is it that I am always resistant to making new forms of books, yet once I have made them, I feel inspired. Do others feel like this?
Anyway, some lovely container/books were made, and I have added a new page to my blog with photos of all the meetings so far: check this out under ABCD at the top of the blog.
The next two sessions are going to be facilitated by Pat Wolseley and Rowena Seddon. Pat writes:
“I am back from Australia…and have become obsessed with aboriginal paintings that always tell a ‘story’, and Rowena has been making stunning monoprints, so we thought we could combine storytelling and monoprints that can be combined as a book into our two sessions…”
This needn’t be too complicated: the ‘story’ can just be a word that conjures up a succession of images. Keep it simple, less is more, and so on. I really look forward to us all grappling with content after having spent four sessions on form. Who knows, some of those forms may come in useful in this next exploration.

Summer term
April 16 – May 23 (6 weeks)
Fee: £75

Easter in Venice
My daughter Robin and family are looking to let their flat in Venice for up to a week over the Easter weekend. It’s large, very well located and has a double room, a two singles room and a sofa bed in the living area. £600 or thereabouts. Contact me for more details.

Life drawing/painting
April 19, 26; May 3, 10, 17
This is a new venture, to be held in my upstairs room in the house that has been used as an occasional gallery in the past. A perfect space I feel, and so I’m running a kind of pilot project to find out how much interest there is out there, so let me know if you want to sign up. I’m charging £40 in advance for the 5 sessions, which includes the model, but no tuition.
My suggestion for a time is either Wednesday or Thursday 4 – 7 pm.
Either way, tell me which you prefer.

End of year show
May 26 – June 3
To include a selection of work by Agnes Larkins, a wonderful and much loved Monday etcher for 20 years, who sadly died last month.

Venice residency
Details of how you might get involved in this are to be found at

I shall be there from July 1 – 22, but the whole programme runs for 6 weeks.

Fingerprint get-together
August 1 – 3 (for Fingerprint members only)

SAW 2012
September 15 – 30

FINGERPRINT is the group of printmakers that regularly meet at my studio to make work and generally support each other. We’ve been together for several years but rarely exhibit as we are more about process than product. This exhibition is a chance to see new work in a variety of styles. And please note the opening hours: they are fairly limited as the Bridgwater Arts Centre, the oldest in the country, has had its funding cruelly withdrawn and is now run by volunteers…
